Emma Charlotte Duerre Watson was born in Paris France to British parents Jacqueline Luesby and Chris Watson two lawyers. When she moved to Oxfordshire around the age of five, she enrolled in The Dragon School. Emma made the decision to become an actor at age six. Over the course of several years, she attended the Oxford branch of Stagecoach Theatre Arts part-time school. She learned to sing as well as dancing, and also acting. By the age of ten she had performed and taken the role of lead in a number of Stagecoach shows and school productions. The casting process began in 1999 to cast Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone (2001) the movie adaptation of British writer J.K. Rowling's bestselling novel. Emma was discovered by agents via her Oxford teacher. David Heyman informed Emma, Daniel Radcliffe, and Rupert Grint after auditioning for eight times. They were chosen to play three leads Hermione Gringer Harry Potter Ron Weasley. Emma's first appearance in a film was alongside Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone in the year 2001. The movie broke all records in terms of first-day and weekend sales, and it was the top-grossing 2001 film. It was highly praised by experts, as was the performance of three young actors. The highly distributed British newspaper The Daily Telegraph called her performance admirable. Emma's performance was nominated, and she received five awards for the movie.
